History

The Oxford Contemporary Opera Society was formed in 2018 by three students of the University (Zerlina Vulliamy, Sam Padfield and Priya Radhakrishnan), with the aims of introducing and promoting contemporary opera to the wider Oxford community as well as providing a platform for any students who wish to write, direct, produce and perform opera throughout the University. In May 2019 we officially launched the society with our inaugural production of Marilyn Forever, the UK premiere of the opera by Gavin Bryars about the life of Marilyn Monroe. Featuring a stellar cast and fantastic production team, the opera was received excellently amongst audiences, which bodes very well for our upcoming opera festival in November, which will feature 3 operas written, produced and performed by students of the University.
